Pilar immigrated to Canada from Bolivia as a child.
She studied at The University of Victoria where she double majored in Visual Arts and History of Art. She pursued further studies at the former Vancouver Art Academy, at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, U.S.A. and at the Aristides Classical Atelier.
She has been teaching and working as an artist in the city of Vancouver for the past 18 years.
